Meet Cinnamon and Cricket! They are 12-year-old female Shih Tzus. They came into rescue because their owner had to surrender them due to health issues. They are looking for a very special forever home. They each weigh about 15 pounds, but need to take off a few pounds to live their best lives!
Cinnamon requires a twice-daily thyroid pill, which costs abut $20 a month. She also has an as-needed cough medicine ($20 a bottle) to treat her collapsing trachea (this causes her to cough when active or excited). Losing the extra pounds will hopefully help improve this condition. Cricket requires twice-daily eye drops ($50 for a 6-8 week supply) in her left eye to treat dry eye. Both ladies do very well with taking their meds!
Both Cinnamon and Cricket have visual impairment, so going down stairs is unsafe for them. Cricket can go up a couple of stairs once she is familiar with them. When they first arrived at their foster home, they both had to be carried inside and outside to go potty, but once they had the layout of the house figured out, they started to go to the top and bottom of the stairs that lead outside and wait for assistance.
Cinnamon and Cricket are crate-trained and sleep quietly in their crates. Their crates and beds will be included in their adoptions to ease the transition! Cricket also likes to nap on couches, but Cinnamon prefers the floor. They have been getting better and better with going potty outside all of the time. The transition to a new home after being in one for all of their lives has probably affected their potty habits. They do bark to communicate and will bark to alert to needing to go potty outside. The aforementioned barking does exclude them from apartment living. A fenced yard would probably work best for them. They get along with other dogs, but mostly keep to themselves. They also don't mind cats. Cricket has a playful streak, but it has taken almost a month to show the silly side of herself at her foster home. Cinnamon has more of a laid back personality. They both are sensitive to loud sounds and even jump when the super loud chihuahua at their foster home barks! They need a quiet, calm home.
Cinnamon and Cricket are Shih Tzus, so they will require regular grooming to keep their coats under control. They have been groomed since coming to rescue and behaved very well at the groomer!
Cinnamon and Cricket have been spayed. They are up-to-date on vaccines, flea and heartworm prevention, and received dentals. If you are interested in adopting this sweet pair, fill out an adoption application at sbret.com! Their adoption fee is $100.
