Hi! My name's Dixie.

I'm a 2-year-old adorable scruffy female Terrier mix. I weigh about 11 pounds. I like belly rubs, walks, and long cuddles on the couch.

My foster mom says I'm the best girl in the whole world -- and that I'm really smart, because I so quickly learn everything she teaches me. I have good manners, I walk perfectly on the leash, I am trained to potty outdoors every morning and night - and I go to the back door and/or tell my foster mom if I need to go in between times. I wait patiently for her to set my food (we call them "good eats") on the floor and I don't approach the dish until she says ok. I let her take food away and I also let her take a bone from my mouth without complaining.

I like the dogs I meet in the neighborhood, and I have done well with gentle older children. I haven't met any cats yet so I don't know about them but I am a Terrier! The neighbors all remark that I am very quiet and don't bark. I do yelp just a little when my foster mom leaves the house. I sleep through the night in my crate and I'm crated when my foster mom goes places without me. I'm fond of supervising her while she tends to her flower beds. Sometimes she takes me for rides in the car, where I curl up on my blankie on the passenger seat, and say puppy prayers that she will swing through the DQ drive-thru.

I found myself in an area shelter when SBRET rescued me. I had those nasty heartworms, but I have now gone through that treatment. I will need to swing by SBRET’s vet to have a heartworm test in a few months just to confirm I am totally clear! I've been spayed, microchipped, and had my teeth cleaned. I'm up-to-date on my immunizations and monthly preventatives.

I'm looking for a family to love me as I promise to love them. I'm very affectionate. I think I would like a family that was home quite a bit and I should be fine with gentle children over 8 years old. If you think I might be the little cutie for you, get in touch with my friends at SBRET. My adoption fee is $175.
