My name is Kole. I am a male Shih Tzu who ended up in a shelter. The shelter contacted SBRET, and I was lucky to have them take me in!! I am about 7 years old and 11 pounds and I am a sweet boy, although I was a bit shy at first. All I wanted to do was hang out in my bed. I would burrow under the cushion and hide out. Since I had to have all of my fur shaved off due to severe matting, my foster mom wondered if I was cold or embarrassed that I was naked! I do have some thinning of my fur along my back due to the matting, but with good nutrition and regular grooming it should come back in. I am now starting to settle in and become more active. I love to eat and if I hear the food container or the treat bag rattle, I come running. My foster mom says that I am such a good boy, because I have done so well on my house training. I am not very good with walking on a leash, but do well enough to be taken out on a leash to potty. When you take me out, I do my business and head for the door to go back in. I sleep in a crate at night in the bedroom with my foster mom and don't let out a peep. In fact, she has yet to hear me bark! I like to be where my human is, but only want to be in your lap for a few minutes. I have been with children 6 years and older and have done well with them. I get along with other small dogs also.
When I was examined by the vet, I was found to have dry eye. I am currently getting drops in my eyes twice a day plus artificial tears 2-4 times a day. My eyes will be rechecked to see if there is any improvement, but I will probably have to have eye drops for the rest of my life. When my foster mom first started putting the drops in my eyes, I didn't like it. But after a couple of days I realized that the drops made my eyes feel better, so now I hold really still for her.
I have been neutered, microchipped, and am up-to-date on all my vaccines. I am heartworm-negative and am on heartworm and flea prevention. If you think that I would make a great addition to your family and want to give me a forever home, please contact SBRET. My adoption fee is $175.
