Hi there! If you are looking for a fun, little female Terrier mix, read on. My name is Maya, and at my last weigh-in I was 9.4 lbs. I’m only 5 months old though, and still considered a puppy, so I will get bigger.

While with my previous family, I fell 6 feet onto a concrete pad. That hurt! When taken to the vet, my family was told I needed hip surgery. Sadly, that’s when they decided to surrender me. When SBRET rescued me, I was underweight and my hip and pelvic bones were a fractured mess. It’s been a few weeks now since my FHO surgery, or femoral head and neck osectomy; and though my back right leg will always be a little fraction of an inch shorter than my other 3 legs, it’s not slowing me down. I’m recovering well, gaining weight, and you should see me run!

Since I’m a puppy, and had no potty training before SBRET, I still need help in that area. My foster parents are working with me, and if taken outside every 2-3 hours I do better, but I still have accidents. I’d love to sleep in bed with you, but I do well in a crate at night. I’m also good if left there for a few hours during the day.

So we can continue to work on my potty training, I need someone who is home at least part of the day. I’m doing well on a leash, so a fence is not necessary unless you are not much of a walker. Aside from needing multiple walks to do my potty business, I need someone active enough to take me for longer jaunts too. The exercise will help me burn energy and is necessary to help the muscles continue to build up on my previously injured leg. There will also be some easy leg manipulation exercises SBRET would show you how to do. I’d like a young furry brother or sister too. I don’t like to be alone, and the company would be good when you are gone; plus, I love to snuggle and play. If you are looking for a car travel buddy, I may not be the best choice as I get carsick.

Because I’m a feisty young pup and still learning my boundaries, I’d do best in an adult home or one with children 8 years or older. I would not be a good apartment dog since I do like to alert you when I hear something. If you are looking for a feisty, active girl like me, contact SBRET and ask for Maya. I have been spayed, microchipped, and up to date on heartworm/flea prevention. My adoption fee is $175.
