Meet Quill, a 2-year old, 12-pound male Shih Tzu/Terrier mix who ended up in a shelter as an unclaimed injured stray. The shelter staff contacted SBRET because this poor guy had a rear leg that was not functionable - it was basically just dangling. Once our vets examined him and consulted with a specialist, it was determined that it was a pelvic fracture and likely an old injury. It was decided that an amputation would be best for him as he was already getting around so well not using that leg and there was not a repair for the leg. He may need some pain meds as he grows older as his pelvis did not heal exactly right but there was no fix for it. His injuries should have been treated when they happened--sadly that was not done.

Quill doesn't seem to notice that he only has three legs - he still acts like a puppy at times, running around chasing tennis balls and enthusiastically going for walks around the block. He is the happiest little boy with quite the personality that seems to make everyone fall in love with him! He loves to cuddle in your lap but if that is not your thing, he would be just as content in his dog bed nearby. He plays with toys, rides well in a car, does well on a leash and tolerates a crate for short periods of time. He will require frequent brushing as he has the thin hair that mats easily, and he is not a fan of having those mats brushed out.

Quill gets along great with other dogs, doesn't mind cats and will do fine in a home with older children. Quill has been neutered, micro-chipped, and up-to-date on all vaccines and heartworm preventative. If you are up for loving this sweet boy then please contact SBRET. Quill's adoption fee is $175.
