Hello, they call me Speedy! I am a very affectionate, 4-year-old, male Chihuahua mix. At last weigh-in, I was 7.5 pounds. When surrendered to SBRET, I had an old untreated rear leg injury and it was decided by the vet that my leg needed to be amputated. I’ve recovered well from the surgery and get around on three legs almost as easily as when I had four good legs. I’m a funny little guy who can do a walking handstand while I pee. Who does that?!! Though I love people, and cuddling is my favorite activity, I sometimes still remember the pain from my lost leg and how it hurt when I was touched. So occasionally, no matter how gently I’m touched or picked up, I might yelp. I’ve been fully checked out though, and my body is in good shape.

My potty training might need a little work yet, but I do well if taken outside every 2-3 hours. I am crate-trained and love the little bed my foster mom added for me. I feel safe when left there for a few hours during the day, and I sleep all night in it. I sometimes even need to be coaxed out of my crate, but giving me a little space or pulling out my little bed with me in it does the trick.

I need someone who will be patient and calm as I learn to trust their touch. And though I’m doing well with my potty training, I still need positive reinforcement. So it’d be great if my forever person had flexible work hours. Because of my anxieties, children over 12 would be best. I do well on car rides and like taking walks, but I need a fenced yard to do my daily business. You should see me run in my foster family’s fenced area. There’s a reason they call me Speedy. LOL! I get along well with other dogs my size, but I’d be happy to be your only one. I’m not sure how I’d be with cats. If you are looking for a little boy who loves to cuddle, contact SBRET and ask for Speedy. I am neutered, microchipped, up to date on all of my vaccines, heart worm and flea prevention, and my adoption fee is only $175.
