Archer

Adoption Area: East Tennessee

Archer needs:

  • Active adult home with everyone steady on their feet or one with children over 8
  • Someone home a lot as there is some separation anxiety
  • A fenced yard or someone willing to do daily walks
  • Another playful, small dog

Meet Archer, a 1 year old, 12.8 pound male Shih Tzu. Archer came to SBRET when his family could not care for him and is now ready to find his forever home. He is a very sweet and loving little boy who doesn’t know a stranger. He is friendly to everyone he meets and gets along well with other dogs. Archer loves his human and wants to be near you at all times. He can be content to play quietly nearby with a toy or cuddling with you on the couch.

While being in foster care, it has become apparent that he has some separation anxiety and does not like to be left alone. Therefore he will need to be in a home where someone is home much of the day, and there is another dog to keep him company if you need to be away. Archer also has a tendency to get under foot, so someone with balance issues would not be a good fit.

Archer is working on his housetraining and is doing well. He was not neutered when he came into foster care, and wanted to mark his territory. He is currently wearing a belly when wandering around in the house. The tendency to mark is getting less and he is staying dry most of the time as long as he is taken out frequently, about every 3-4 hours. Know that when he comes into a new home that there will be a period of time of adjusting to his new environment.

He does well on a leash and loves to go for walks, but a secure fenced yard would also be a plus. At night he sleeps soundly in a kennel in his foster parents’ bedroom. Of course, he would love to sleep in the bed with you if he is allowed. Archer loves to play with toys, but his wish is to have a fur companion who likes to play chase and tussle. When riding in the car, he is well behaved on short trips, like to the vet or the groomers, but on longer trips he has gotten car sick. Archer’s  silky coat will need regular brushing to prevent mats and regular professional grooming.

Archer is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccines and flea and heartworm prevention. The ideal forever home for Archer would be an active adult home and/or with children no less than 8 years old, someone home most of the day, a fur buddy to play with, a secure fenced yard or someone who will take him for walks, and regular brushing and grooming. His adoption fee is $175.
