Adoption Area: East Tennessee
June needs:
- A patient owner who will let her warm up on her own timing
- Someone home at least part of the day to provide companionship and continue with her potty training
- A friendly small dog buddy or two
- Calm house with children over 12, with everyone steady on their feet
- No apartments due to my surprisingly loud bark
June is a 2-year-old sweet female Chihuahua mix weighing approximately 9 pounds. She has beautiful white fur with some light tan markings on her ears and back. She came into the rescue from a hoarding situation where there were over seventy dogs in the house. When June first came to her foster home, she was quite scared and hid in a crate within an exercise pen. She warmed up to her foster mom within a couple days but did submissively pee for a couple weeks whenever she needed to be picked up (strategically placed pee pads are a big help!). June is concerned when new people enter the house and will bark at them. She does take time to warm up to new people due to her timid nature.
At first June was scared about going outside, but now prefers to do her business in the yard instead of using pee pads. Her house training is progressing well and she has only had a couple of accidents in the house. Leash training is still a work in progress so her new home must have a secure fenced back yard.
After her foster mom gained her trust, June began showing her fun playful side. She loves chasing small squeaky tennis balls and stuffed squeaky toys. She also warmed up to the other small dogs in the house and enjoys playing chase in the fenced back yard. She would benefit from having other dogs of similar size and energy level to play with. She loves to cuddle up on a warm lap or under a cozy blanket next to you on the couch.
June is very food motivated, gets very excited at meal time and will jump up and down when she sees food is on the way. Due to this, her foster mom feeds her separately from the other dogs and also uses a slow feeder bowl. With her love of food, she dances around the kitchen when food is being prepared and will get underfoot so it is important that everyone in the household is steady on their feet.
She sleeps in a crate at night in her foster mom’s bedroom without a fuss but would love to sleep in the big bed. When her foster mom leaves the house, she crates June to keep her safe. June expresses her displeasure about being left with a very shrill loud bark. She occasionally does better being left alone with the use of Trazodone given two hours in advance.
June is spayed, microchipped and is up to date on vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick preventives. Her adoption fee is $175.
