Adoption Area: East Tennessee
Zuri needs:
- Active adult home or one with children over 10
- Someone home part of the day
- Regular professional grooming
- Secure fenced yard. Zuri is a runner when he gets out of a door or gate (although he’s doing better with listening when called)
- Activity to be happy. A reasonably active family or individual who will walk or run with him daily and play regularly with him is necessary
- Zuri does well with other dogs, but dogs in the adoptive household should be okay with roughhouse playing and vocalization. Zuri would also be fine as an only dog.
- No apartments or attached condos
Hi there:
My name is Zuri. I’m a 5-year-old, 14-pound male Shih Tzu. I found myself in a shelter and was in pretty rough shape as I may have been on my own for a while. I was rescued from the shelter by a nice SBRET lady and talk about lucky! They saved my life, because I had nasty heartworms! I’ve had all my shots now, am neutered, have healthy teeth, and have completed heartworm treatment and the necessary quiet period after. I’m glad that’s over, because I have lots of energy! I am now allowed to walk on a leash (I’m working on not tugging), run around in the fenced yard, and jump wherever I want! I’m quite the jumper and need daily exercise. I am super excited around meal and snack time and am a great eater. While I do bark loudly when I first meet strangers, I calm down quickly and seem to love everyone. I also have to bark when I hear someone outside, or another dog barking, or when I want to play, so an environment where there are close neighbors (apartment, condo) is not right for me. I’m continuing to work on my house training, and am doing great as long as I’m taken out regularly. I love to snuggle up by the humans in the house and sleep well in a crate next to their bed.
As you can see from my pictures, I’m adorable. I hope you love my sweet face and Shih Tzu underbite and want to meet me in person! My foster family will be sad, but their older dog will be relieved, since I get on her nerves trying to entice her to play with me. If you think I may be the right fit for your family, submit an online application. My adoption fee is $175.
