A home where everyone is surefooted and if there are any children, should be over 12 years old
No apartments or attached housing
A fenced yard
Someone home part of the day
No large dogs
Boo is a handsome 2-yr-old “blue” and white 6-lb male Chihuahua. His foster home calls him “The Domino Dog” and has fun by debating whether he is a white dog splattered with black paint or whether he’s a black dog that stepped in white paint! His new home may be able to figure that riddle out over time!
Boo is such a fun boy…He’s happy, healthy, and fairly active around the house. He loves playing with his doggie playmates, and surprisingly, he loves cats too! He loves sitting in your lap during TV time, and if a cat should jump up, he might even try to clean its ears! He’s well-trained inside the house if taken out at frequent, regular intervals, and he has also used potty pads in his foster home.
Boo has been recovering at his foster home for about 3 months due to a big booboo, a broken front right leg, which was treated successfully at Blackford Veterinary Services. He has completely healed, but his leg will be considered in his home placement: no children under 12 due to his past injury and size and no large dogs. He will need supervised outings— which he would require anyway, due to his small size. He has no interest in using stairs so a home with steps would be fine, but the owner would need to be able to pick him up for stair trips. Letting him jump down from heights is not a wise idea either. He loves to follow his people around so a fenced area right outside the door or reliable leashing prior to going out is necessary. Being loose/lost would be a big concern with his history since he was not well socialized prior to rescue. The good news is that he’s been going on short walks up to about half a mile during his recuperation and has been doing well with stamina and leash control! However, in a new environment, we would consider him a flight risk so a fenced yard will be necessary. His foster home has been working hard to teach “Sit, Come, Hush, Out,” but he will need continued reinforcement. Because he can still be a bit barky, future homes would not include apartments.
Boo responds well to crates for car trips, at night, and when people are out of the home for short trips. He’s a great eater although his current weight is ideal, and being overweight would not be good for his healed leg or rear knees (with Grade 2 luxating patellas). His knees are fine for now and need no intervention at this time. He was underweight on arrival in rescue and was extremely hungry…he will still scavenge in his potty area for leaves, twigs, etc., but is responding well to correction about leaving them alone.
Boo is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and current on heartworm and flea preventions. If you think you could solve the Riddle of the Domino Dog and would love to share your home with this remarkable dog, please fill out an application with SBRET. Boo’s adoption fee is $175.
