Jack needs: Hi, my name is Jack. I am a loving, friendly, 9-year-old, 17-pound male Jack Russell Terrier mix, with the playful energy of a dog half my age. I love to play fetch with a squeaky toy, though I play a little game of keep-away with you once I get it! I love to go for walks and to run and play with people and with other dogs, though some dogs can be a little overwhelmed by my playful enthusiasm. I am learning how to read signals as to when it is time to tone down my energy. I can’t resist chasing cats, so I should be in a household with no cats.

I was living outside in a backyard before I was taken to a shelter by people who could no longer take care of me, so since then, I have been learning some of the rules about living inside. I am a very alert dog and I want to do the right things, so I am learning quickly in my foster home and I just need people who can be a little patient with me while I learn the rules of their house. I am almost housetrained, as long as I have an opportunity to go outside every few hours during the day. I say “almost” because, for a little while longer, I might occasionally need to be reminded not to lift my leg inside — SBRET will send a belly band with me to use while I adjust.

I also enjoy occasional quiet times, preferably sitting beside you or on your lap, and I love being petted and scratched. At night, I have been sleeping in a crate in my foster home, but I would jump (literally!) at the chance to sleep in bed with you, if allowed. I have also been staying in a crate when my foster parent leaves the house. When I am first put in a crate, I might whine briefly, but after just a few minutes, I settle down nicely.

I have been neutered and microchipped, am up-to-date with my vaccinations, heartworm and flea/tick prevention, have had a recent dental exam, and I am not on any medications. I have some rusty discoloration on my back, near my tail, probably from my saliva when I was irritated by fleas and ticks while living outside. This should go away over time, now that the fleas and ticks are gone.

If you are looking for a sweet, playful, tail-wagging companion and think you have the perfect forever home for me, please contact SBRET. My adoption fee is $100.
