Adoption Area: Knoxville/East Tennessee

Jasper needs: Meet Jasper! He is a 6-year-old, 6-pound male Yorkie/Poodle mix. He has been through a lot of change in the last few weeks and has been frightened of loud noises, being away from his foster mom, or being around other dogs and men. He has done well with his foster mom’s personal dog and her grand dogs, but he started barking at dogs at the vet office and outside the car when driving. he would probably be OK with another small dog in his home but may need just a bit to adjust.

The vet office that rescued Jasper was told that he had seizures infrequently, but they observed at least one while they had him and started him on an anti-seizure medication. It is in pill form and is given twice a day. The medication is not too expensive, approximately $20 a month. He will also need regular blood work to make sure the dosage is correct.

He enjoys going for walks and potties well on the leash. He’s mastered the steps to the couch and the ramp up to the bed. We wonder if he is part Chihuahua as he loves to burrow under the covers! When his foster mom wonders where he is, she will go into the bedroom and see a lump under the covers and calls his name and Jasper wiggles out! It’s so cute!

Jasper walks along the perimeter of the fence looking for a way out, so if you have a fence, it will need to be very secure. His small size allows him to squeeze through small openings. His foster mom currently keeps him on the leash even in the fenced yard just to be safe since he’s so new to rescue.

Jasper sleeps in a crate at night after hanging out on the bed until lights out. He allows his foster mom to brush him and he loves getting treats! He’s just starting to play a little with his foster mom’s hands, but seems interested in the squeeky noise from toys.

His fur was very overgrown and matted when he was surrendered, so he was groomed right away. Once his fur grows out, grooming will need to be done on a regular basis.

Jasper is neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. He is current on his flea and heartworm prevention. Because of the seizure medication, all flea protection must be topical. His adoption fee is $175.
