Hello, my name is Kai, rhymes with sky. I’m approximately 2 years old, male, white with soft tan makings and soft brown eyes. Everyone thinks I’m a Chihuahua mix with a little bit of Italian Greyhound because I have long elegant legs. I weigh 11.8 pounds.
I came out of the shelter very worried about other dogs. Since there are other dogs here in my foster home, my foster mom gave me a safe place to hang out while I decompressed from the shelter environment. I spent the first couple of days in an ex-pen in the living room where I could see the other dogs. Then I moved out of the ex-pen to having a crate available as my security blanket that I could go into if I was nervous about the dogs and cats here. It took me about 4 days to where I could pass the other dogs in my foster home in the hallway (otherwise I went the other direction) now I’m “OK” with the other dogs here but I still get worried and sometimes growl at some of them. I have started playing with the young Chihuahua mix here and might enjoy a small dog like that as a buddy, but will need you to give me some time.
I don’t like cats, I growl at them and I’ve chased them a little. The cats in the world would be so grateful if they didn’t have to live with me! I love to bark at the invisible burglars that lurk around, I would not be a good neighbor if you live in an apartment or condo. I’m learning leash skills and I’m doing “OK”, but I need more practice.
I love my foster mom and love to hang out with her and watch TV. I love my food and look forward to my meals. My ideal home would be fairly quiet, with room for me in the big bed (but I do sleep as quiet as a mouse in a crate), a fenced yard and a warm and loving lap. I will need continued work with my socialization and that could be short walks on a quiet street, a trip occasionally to Lowe’s or Home Depot so I can experience new sights, smells and sounds. I’m doing wonderful with my house training!
I’m up to date with my vaccinations, neutered and on heartworm and flea prevention. My adoption fee is $175.
