Someone who is VERY patient who will help me with house training and be patient with me when I get scared and may nip at people
Someone who is home part of the day.
A fenced yard
Hi! I’m back! You may recognize me because I was up for adoption a while back but my adoption did not work out so I have been back with my foster mom for a few weeks. I am going to try to do a better job of telling you what I need in my forever home this time.
My name is Millie, but my foster mom calls me Millie Moo because of my black and white color. I am an adorable 8-year-old, 7-pound, female Shih Tzu mix. I get along well with the other dogs in my foster home, but I would be an okay only dog if you are home a lot. I am a sweet girl, but I have my quirks so read on to see if we will be a good fit.
We have no idea what my life was like before I found myself at the rescue, but I can be a very timid and shy girl at first. When I first came to live with my foster parents, I only wanted my foster mom. She started to think I didn’t like men, but it just took me a while to warm up to other people. Now I will lie on my foster dad's lap and let him pick me up! I have also started to growl and nip at people if I am scared or nervous. I have never done this to my foster mom, but I did at my potential adopter’s house. I need a home who will let me take my time getting to know everyone at my own pace. My foster mom can tell you more about that if you are interested. I also had a relapse in house training at my adoptive home, so I will need someone who is very patient with me while I transition. I love to be outside and do best with a fenced yard so I can take my time to potty.
I really like to cuddle. I also need a blanket available to me. I like to hold the blanket between my paws and suck on it. They tell me I’m self soothing, because I can be a nervous girl.It doesn’t have to be the same blanket, my foster mom seems to have blankets in every room and that’s perfect with me! I sleep well all night in bed with my foster mom. It makes me less nervous to always be near her. Oh and speaking of nervousness, I am terrified of thunder! I just wanted you to know that! Terrified!
I have a few needs medically as well. I have a grade 3 heart murmur. The vet doesn’t think it is necessary for me to be on medicine for it at this time, but it will need to be checked regularly. I also have grade 4 bad back knees. This is common in small breed dogs and it doesn't seem to bother me or give me pain at this time. Because of these two factors, I have to watch my weight. I put on some weight in rescue and so I am trying to lose half a pound or so. That may not seem like a lot but when you are this little it’s A LOT. I love to eat so I need someone who will keep me on a strict diet and not give me too many treats. Also, I have allergies. I get itchy and sneezy so I have just started taking Zyrtec in the morning and Benadryl in the evening. My foster mom says lots of people around here have allergies and it’s ok. I also had a Cytapoint injection but it did not completely stop the itching. I also have a bit of a head tilt which may have been from a previous injury prior to coming to rescue.
My foster family loves me so much, but it’s time for me to find my forever home! If you think you can love me and give me what I need, then I know I can love you! I am up to date on my shots, spayed, and am on heartworm and flea prevention. My adoption fee is $175.
