My needs are almost as small as me:
– A securely fenced yard to play in
– A canine brother or sister (or both, I’m easy)
– An adult home or one with children 12 or older
Hello. They call me Skyy, shy Skyy.
I am a 4-year-old, 8-pound, female Chihuahua Terrier mix that was brought into the shelter from a hoarding case. When the nice folks at SBRET took me from the shelter I was a dirty, flea covered mess. I didn’t know anything about collars, or toys, or this whole business like it matters where I do my business.
They put me with a foster family that offered me this soft thing they called a bed. It looked like a trap to me. In fact, back then, I was suspicious of just about everything. I guess the trauma of my past life took a little getting over. But I am most definitely getting over it.
Now that I have been bathed and spayed and microchipped and gotten up to date on all my vaccinations, I am one of the sweetest, most mild-mannered little pups you could ever hope to meet. I am mostly white with some black spots and dots. And I wear this cute little mask around my eyes that gives me those “puppy dog” expressions that can melt your heart. I only weigh about 8 pounds so I am not a chow hound. I’ve got to keep my girlish figure so I can fit into those darling little dresses and sweaters!
I am a fabulous dancer and have the best time twirling for treats. You should see me! The camera can’t capture how cute I look when I’m shaking it on the dance floor, okay kitchen tile, whatever.
I am just learning to walk on a leash and do well as long as I can make frequent stops to smell the roses and weeds, and sticks, and pebbles. I am just discovering a whole new world and I am trying to take it all in.
I am a little canine lie-detecting machine. Do not try to tell me we are going for ice cream if we are really going for a bath. Just shoot straight with me. I may not like it, but I will go along to get along, especially if there are some little treats involved. I didn’t get many treats in my past life and I find them to be one of the best things in life. With a little patience, some positive reinforcement, and a lot of treats, you can have me eating out of your hand.
This is embarrassing for a shy girl like me to admit, but it has taken a little bit of time to adjust to the idea of going outside to potty. It seems to be particularly important to humans, so I am trying my best for their sake. If I cannot make it outside, I almost always use a puppy pad. I am still working on this skill. I need lots of opportunities to go outside and really like to be in a securely fenced yard. My foster family has a couple of older dogs and I feel safest when I am with them, especially their boy dog. He is like a hero to me. If your home has another small dog, I would love to make their acquaintance.
I gladly sleep in my own bed but will never turn down the opportunity to sleep in the people bed. I am happy to ride in a travel crate, but I do not like being crated at any other time. I understand that the crate is the only safe way for me to ride in the car, but do I really need to be in a crate when I am in the house?? It’s not as if I would ever tear anything up. You can trust me! And maybe I will trust you. We should get to know each other…I’m ready to give you a chance.
If you think you might be the new family for me get in touch with my new friends at SBRET. I have been spayed, microchipped, and am up-to-date on vaccines, hearwtworm and flea prevention. My adoption fee is $175.
