Adoption Area: East Tennessee
Henna needs:
- Adult home with someone home a lot during the day
- A small dog buddy
- Secure fencing that makes climbing impossible
- Leashing at all times during introduction period and whenever doors open or she is allowed outside
- Will need a final heartworm test (approximately in June) at Anderson County Animal Hospital (no cost for adopter)
Henna is a delightful 3yr old, 12 pound scruffy, buff-colored Terrier mix female who came in heartworm positive, but she has completed heartworm treatment during foster care. She is as close to perfect as anyone could wish for! She loves other dogs, cats, people, crate-time, dog food, walking on a leash, etc. She does require a brief warm-up period during introduction as with any dog, but she will bond deeply with her people and pets.
Her only concern is a tendency to escape while she is in the process of bonding with her new home. Since she came from a hoarding situation, she is used to foraging afar….probably because she is searching for her former home and friends. This problem is easily solved by having an appropriate fenced area AND making sure she is on a leash inside and out during this period. She should never be left outside alone even in a fenced yard because she will go looking for her people and friends. As her foster mom, I know personally that she will go looking if she gets out because she escaped from her foster home the second day she arrived. This has never happened at our foster home so we have taken simple precautions since that adventure, and we haven’t had any problems since that escape.
She is doing fantastic on potty training if taken out regularly. Her potty habits are pretty regular and predictable. She is learning to walk on a leash very well, and with continued reinforcement, she is making a wonderful walking companion. She’s great in a car, but a crate is required since she might bolt out of the car or the use of a secure doggie belt would work also. She sleeps in a crate while you are out of the house and at night.
Because she is used to other dogs a companion dog would be an ideal friend for her, and she is used to most-of-the-day human companionship so a retired couple-life would be perfect. Due to concerns about escape, children would not be a good combination since doors could be left open, not leashing when the door opens, and not staying with her during outdoor trips could end very sadly.
Barking is not a problem even though she does have a big voice, but she usually only barks when other dogs in the home bark. She is doing quite well learning to “Hush!”
Best of all, she is a LOVING baby who loves to be with her people and friends. Lying beside you on the couch or curled with you in a chair is heaven for her. She looks at you with her adoring brown eyes and melts your heart. She will even place her paws on your chest like she is trying to give you a gentle hug and a kiss. Ahhh, just such a sweetheart!
If you think Henna could be the perfect dog for you, please contact SBRET. She is spayed, vaccinated, and current on flea/heartworm treatment. She has completed heartworm treatment so exercise is currently increasing as she recovers. A final check for a heartworm test at Anderson County Animal Hospital will be provided at no cost for her adopters. Perfection is hard to find, and she’s as perfect as they come! Her adoption fee is $175.
