Fred needs:
- Regular grooming to avoid mats and tangles in his beautiful soft coat
- Someone who is able to pick up a 14 pound dog (his legs are too short to jump)
- Someone able to administer eye drops daily
- Someone home part of the day
- A home with adults and children over 8 years who are sure-footed and steady on their feet (he’ll sneak up on ya)
My name is Fred and I am a 14-pound male Pekingese, about 8 years old. I have a couple of surgeries behind me now, so I am ready to find my forever home. When I came to SBRET, I had a large mass on my right front paw that was very concerning. Successful surgery showed it to be benign, so no worries! I do have dry eye (my right one), which will require prescription eye drops twice a day for the rest of my life. The very good news is that I am a good boy when it comes to eye drops – I am calm and don’t even flinch. In order to keep my eyes free from irritation, I had to have facial fold surgery to remove some of the deep wrinkles on my cute face that were rubbing too close to my eyes. I am now all healed up and handsome as ever.
I am a laid-back fellow who gets along well with other dogs and with people. I had a habit of barking and “begging” when my foster family ate dinner, but now I lay quietly because I know they’re not going to give me a darn thing. My legs are short, which means I cannot do stairs well or jump up on (or down from) furniture or beds to cuddle with you — you will have to lift me up. I do love snuggles and hugs, but don’t take it personally if I move away from you. Pekingese breeds have a double coat, so sometimes I just wanna plop on the cool hardwood floor. And before you ask, I do shed a bit.
I do fine on a leash (though I’m not really a serious walker, just an ambler), and I don’t mind a crate or car rides at all. I sleep in a crate in my foster parents’ bedroom at night and sometimes go in my crate just to nap. I am housetrained but – I cannot lie — occasionally have accidents indoors. I will do best with a set routine. I am hard of hearing so will not come when you call, but if something is cooking in the kitchen, I’ll be right there to check it out (nothing wrong with my nose). I don’t really play with balls or toys, but I do like hanging out with my people. Oh, and I snore. Hope that’s not a deal-breaker!
I am neutered, microchipped and up to date on my vaccines and flea and heartworm prevention. My adoption fee is $175. See you soon!
