Hi there! Meet Collette, a 3 year old female Maltese/Poodle mix weighing in at about 9.5 pounds. Collette has had a hard start in life, being used for breeding purposes. She came into rescue in labor with a puppy that was too big for her to birth. She had an emergency C-section and has spent the last couple of months raising her baby. She is now ready to be a carefree princess! Collette loves everyone, especially if they are willing to give out lots of pets. She loves to be where you are, and will follow wherever you go. She will nudge your hand if she wants more pets and loves to snuggle on your shoulder. She gets along well with other small dogs but looks on cats as very large squirrels, barking at and chasing them. Collette will also bark at unfamiliar noises, people that she sees passing on the street, other barking dogs, and a door bell ringing, so a detached home would be best.
Collette is very playful and would love to have another small dog as a companion. She has begun to play with toys and loves to chew on Nylabones. Her foster parents have also caught her chewing on things that she shouldn’t such as the corners of pillows on the couch, and an electrical cord! So “baby” proofing your home may be nescessary.
Collette has been working on her housetraining and has been making good progress. Someone home most of the day to maintain a routine will help with this. A secure fenced in yard would be ideal as she also enjoys running around and exploring. She also does well being walked with a harness and leash, but does have a tendency to run back and forth and may pull if she sees a bird or squirrel. This means that the person walking her needs to be steady on their feet and have a tight grip on the leash. Collette sleeps quietly all night in a crate in her foster parents’ bedroom. If you are looking for a travel companion, Collette is not your girl. She gets carsick and is miserable in the car. She will do ok for short trips (10 mins.), but for longer she will need to be given an anti-nausea medication which you can get from your vet.
. Collette is spayed, up to date on her vaccines, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea prevention. Her
Adoption fee is $175.
