Hi my name is Benny-Joe. I’m a 7 year old white and tan male Shih Tzu mix. I weigh in at 17 pounds. I will not jump up in your lap or onto the couch so you will need to pick me up and place me there if you want to cuddle. Maybe you can teach me to use those doggie stairs that might work for me too. I’m a very laid back kind of guy.
I am hearing impaired – I usually only respond if I can see you. I have been checked by the vet and he says everything in my ears appears to be normal and I may have been born with a hearing impairment. I very rarely bark—it might be because I don’t hear when things get busy. I would need someone to be patient with me while I learn your routine, it took about 4 days when I came to my foster home. The other dogs here helped me too. I follow the pack to see what we need to do. I need to live in a home where everyone is steady on their feet so no one gets hurt.
If there are children they need to be at least 7 years of age and gentle and calm like me. I walk well on a leash/harness but I do tend to walk slowly.
I am doing well with my housetraining – if you put my leash on I will know it’s time to go out for a potty break. I’m great in the car and my foster mom crates me to keep me safe but I would probably do ok buckled in a doggie booster seat. I sleep quietly all night in my crate also; and if my foster mom needs to leave the house for a few hours, I just nap in my crate. I haven’t shown any interest in toys or playing with the other dogs – I just hang out and watch them do their thing. I would be fine as an only dog and I don’t require a fenced yard even though that’s always nice to have. My foster mom was told that I chase cats and they didn’t like me at all. I’m a little bit of a picky eater – my foster mom is close to figuring out what kind of food I prefer. I will need to be brushed regularly and professionally groomed every 6 to 8 weeks to keep me feeling / looking my best, so please plan on that expense.
I recently had a dental cleaning and my teeth are in great condition. I am up to date on my vaccines and flea/heartworm preventions. I’m neutered and microchipped.
