Charley is a sweet, active, 9 pound male Miniature Poodle who is about 1 year old. Charley came into Rescue in pretty rough shape as he had more than likely been hit by a car. He has been in foster care for a couple months and needed time to heal from a fractured pelvis and from FHO surgery on his hip. Now he is zooming around the backyard like Seabiscuit. He LOVES to run. He does not seem to have been leash trained in his previous life and he still resists the leash. He also seems frightened when cars go by. Charley limps sometimes and will need time and exercise to strengthen his back leg. The leg that had FHO surgery will always be just a bit shorter than his other leg. For these reasons, he will need a fenced yard in his forever home so he can run free.
Charley is still in puppy mode with high energy, curiosity that needs supervision, and someone to play with. He will also sit on your lap for a gentle massage and sometimes even fall asleep there. He would love a home with another playful dog or older children to give him the attention he needs, and would benefit from learning from a more settled dog about how to behave in the home, walk on a leash, etc. The other dog in his foster home was a senior who didn’t want to play, but Charley could take a hint and left her alone. He was also respectful when introduced to a cat.
Charley needed crate rest the first month he was in care and did very well waiting to potty until he could go outside. He didn’t mind the crate and pen and seemed to feel safe there, and he slept quietly there all night. Since he has had the run of the house, he has been known to mark since there are a lot of other dog smells in his foster home. He sometimes wears a belly band inside, but he should improve with positive reinforcement and a routine once he is settled in a new home of his own.
Charley is a sweet, smart, precious little boy who needs a family to love and guide him as he grows into adulthood. He has healed from his injuries and needs no further medical treatment. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on heartworm and flea medications and immunizations.
