Adoption Area: East Tennessee
Cosette needs:
- Someone home most of the day
- Everyone steady on their feet
- Adult home or one with children at least 12 years of age
Cosette is a female Chihuahua mix who is 4.5 years old and weighs 7.5 pounds. Cosette adapts quickly to new situations and new people. She is very friendly and will bond tightly to her new person(s). She has a lotta love to give and will shower everyone in the family with her sweetness. She especially loves an empty lap that she can claim as her own.
Cosette enjoys her daily walk and walks very well on a leash. She does have luxating patella (“slippy knees”), so her family needs to keep an eye on that and not let her gain an excessive amount of weight.
She enjoys following her people around the house and the yard. A securely fenced yard would be ideal for her. She is curious and brave, so the fence must be secure.
Children in the home should be gentle with Cosette and know when to give her space. She is not a very active or playful dog indoors and does not show interest in toys (at this time). She will need time to get to know everyone.
Cosette is mostly housetrained. She has gone a couple of times inside her foster home when foster mom did not pick up on the clues. A regular routine of going outside and attention to her body language and actions will ensure success.
She sleeps in a crate at night beside foster mom’s bed. However, she loves to cuddle and would love to sleep with her person(s), burrowed down in the bed covers. She does not like to be crated during the day. When her people need to be away, a small secure space with a comfy dog bed would be best for her. Cosette does not like to be left behind when everyone leaves the house. It is difficult for her, and she will cry when you leave. Although it gets better with time, she will probably never be happy with separation from her person(s).
Cosette gets along well with other gentle, small dogs. She has always lived with at least one other dog in her home. She is not looking for a rambunctious playmate, but it would be great for her to have another dog to bond with.
She barks when people come to the door and sometimes she barks for no obvious reason. Her barking is never excessive.
She enjoys car rides and travels well inside her crate. She usually goes right to sleep and is very quiet.
Cosette’s vaccines and flea and heartworm preventions are up to date. She had a dental and is spayed and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $175. If you are looking for a sweet and faithful companion, Cosette is your girl!
