Dexter

Adoption Area: East Tennessee

Dexter needs:

  • A securely fenced yard
  • Adult home or one with children over 8 and everyone steady on their feet
  • No apartment or attached housing

Dexter is a sweet 7lb, 10 year old male Chihuahua  mix. If you are looking for a quiet Velcro baby, he may be your man! His favorite place to be is in his person’s  lap, up in their arms, or very near by, burrowed under some warm blankets.

This boy has no teeth at all and his fancy tongue dangles, but that doesn’t slow him down, he is still a little chow hound and needs his kibble soaked for a few mins in warm water.

He gets along with other small dogs and would be happy to have a chill fur brother or sister who is not too young or energetic. He would be just as happy to be your one and only! He would likely do just fine with gentle children over 8, who won’t scare him but he has not met any yet.

Dex loves walks when it’s not too cold and does well on a leash. When left at home alone he free roams in the kitchen. He will give a quiet old man howl for a little while and then settle and sleep in a big bed of blankets. The sound is not very invasive but it would still be best for him not to live in an apartment or attached housing. At night he sleeps soundly in the big bed. In the car he does well in a travel crate but would probably love a lap and would take quickly to a doggy booster seat.

He is doing well with house training when taken out often enough, and will need a family that is home often enough to continue his training. He is hesitant to go outside when it is very cold but can be coaxed. He will aim for pee pads inside if they are left out for him. Though he loves his people, he also has an adventurous heart, and if this little man got loose he would take some time to catch again, so his new home needs a very securely fenced yard to keep him safe.

Dexter is heathy, UTD on shots and preventative, neutered, microchipped and ready to go home! His adoption fee is $100.
