Fred

Adoption Area: East Tennessee

Fred needs:

  • Regular grooming to avoid mats and tangles in his beautiful soft coat
  • Someone who is able to pick up a 14 pound dog (his legs are too short to jump)
  • Someone able to administer eye drops daily (he is very cooperative with this)
  • Someone home part of the day
  • A home with adults and children over 8 years who are sure-footed and steady on their feet (he’ll sneak up on ya)

🐾 Meet Fred — Your Future Couch Companion 🐾

Hello there! My name is Fred, and I’m a mellow 8-year-old male Pekingese, tipping the scales at a compact 14 pounds. I’m a laid-back little guy with a big heart and a gentle soul, looking for a forever home where I can be loved and spoiled (but not fed from the dinner table—I’ve learned my lesson!).

🛋️ Personality and Preferences

  • I get along great with other dogs and humans alike.
  • I used to bark and beg during dinner, but now I sit quietly, knowing the snacks are off-limits. (I’m a reformed gentleman!)
  • My short legs make stairs and furniture a challenge, so I’ll need a lift if you want me to snuggle beside you.
  • I adore hugs and snuggles, but sometimes I like my space—don’t take it personally!
  • I have a double coat, so I shed a bit and love sprawling out on cool hardwood floors.

🚶‍♂️ Daily Life with Fred

  • I’m more of an ambler than a hiker, but I do fine on a leash.
  • I’m crate-trained and sleep in a crate in my foster parents’ bedroom. I even nap in it during the day!
  • I’m housetrained as long as you keep me on a routine.
  • I’m hard of hearing, so I won’t come when called, but if there’s food in the kitchen, I’ll be there in a flash. My nose works just fine!
  • I’m not into toys or fetch, but I love hanging out with my people.
  • Oh, and I snore. Loudly. Hope you find it endearing!

🩺 Health & History

I’ve been through a couple of surgeries and come out stronger and cuter than ever:

  • I had a large mass on my front paw when I arrived at SBRET, but surgery revealed it was benign—no worries there!
  • I have dry eye in my right eye, which means I’ll need prescription drops twice a day for life. The good news? I’m a total champ about it—no fuss, no flinching.
  • I also had facial fold surgery to prevent irritation near my eyes. I’m all healed up and looking dapper!

🐶 Adoption Details

  • I’m neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all my vaccines, flea, and heartworm prevention.
  • My adoption fee is $175, and I’m ready to meet my new best friend.

If you’re looking for a loyal, low-key companion with a snuggly side and a snore that’ll make you smile, I might just be your guy. Let’s make this forever thing happen 💛
