Jellybean

Adoption Area: East Tennessee

Jellybean needs:

  • A simple calm living space with no children that can be devoted to him or possibly to him and another small, calm dog
  • Someone to walk him every few hours during the day
  • No apartments or condos (he does bark sometimes and might bark a lot when he is left alone)
  • Someone with a big heart and lots of love to give to a sweet little old Chihuahua  who is blind and deaf

Jellybean is a 6-pound, black-and-tan male Chihuahua mix, estimated to be about 12 years old. This little guy has been through more than his fair share of hardship. He was rescued by local Animal Control after being abandoned in a trailer without air conditioning. He also arrived with very poor eyesight, no hearing, and teeth in such bad shape that they all had to be removed. Yet through it all, Jellybean has shown himself to be a sweet, gentle little trooper who keeps doing his best, one day at a time.

Jellybean is a quiet, easygoing companion who is happiest curled up on your lap or snuggled beside you, soaking up all the affection you have to offer. He sometimes makes little whimpering sounds or lets out a bark, perhaps just to check that someone is nearby or to ask for a little help finding his way around. Since he cannot see or hear, he appreciates a patient, understanding person who can help him feel safe and secure.

His favorite place, when he is not with you, is a cozy dog bed with a soft blanket to burrow under, conveniently located near his food and water. He enjoys having softened kibble available throughout the day so he can eat whenever he likes. Jellybean does best in a safe, familiar space with minimal obstacles, where he can learn his surroundings and settle into a comfortable routine. He cannot have access to flights of stairs. He seems unbothered when another dog comes over to sniff him, although we haven’t yet determined how he would feel about a more playful canine companion.

Jellybean also enjoys his walks. His back legs can be a little stiff at first, but as he gets comfortable and finds his way around, he often loosens up and enjoys a longer stroll. (His strolls tend to be meandering walks around a lawn and he doesn’t cover a lot of distance, though he also enjoys being taken outside in a pet stroller.) He walks on a leash for his safety and guidance, and he has been reliably doing his pooping outside. He has had some urinary accidents indoors, so belly bands (or “male wraps”) are currently part of his care routine.

What Jellybean needs most is a soft place to land. He would love a calm, loving home with someone who understands that senior dogs may need a little extra patience, a few accommodations, and plenty of reassurance. He may not be able to see or hear you coming, but he can certainly enjoy the comfort of your gentle touch and the security of knowing he is loved.

Jellybean has already shown us how resilient he is. Now it’s his turn to enjoy the good life: warm blankets, gentle walks, loving hands, a full tummy, and a person who will cherish him just as he is. Could you be the special someone who gives this precious little senior the happy, comfortable home he deserves?

Jellybean is current on vaccines, neutered, had a dental and is current on his preventions. Jellybean’s adoption fee is $100.
