Adoption Area: East Tennessee

Lexi needs:

  • Dog savvy adult home experienced with shy dogs
  • Someone home most of the day to help with minor separation issues
  • No apartment or Condo living (I’m a loud barker)
  • Fenced yard

My name is Lexi. I am 2- 1/2 years old weighing in at almost 6 pounds and a female Chihuahua mix. As you can see I am adorable with my snowny white fur and cute tan markings.

I need a day or two to warm up to you and might try to hide or stay in my crate (with the door open), so be patient. When I’m ready I will come to you but  I need a a “shy dog”-savvy adult who is sure-footed to help me become more confident. I’m food motivated and treats will help me to trust you. I also like small squeaky toys.

Plan on walking me on a leash even though though you have a secure fenced yard. After I begin to trust you I will stay close by. Remember to keep me safe you must stay with me when you take me out in the fenced yard. I do have some minor separation issues so I need someone home most of the day. My foster mom started giving me 25mg of  Trazodone 2 hours before she needs to leave the house to do errands and so far I just nap while she’s gone (she checks on me with her camera). I do need to be crated when no one is home and during the night because I have been known to get into things that will harm me. My foster mom has my wire crate in her room and she covers it at night so I feel safe and I sleep quietly until morning. My foster mom tried gating me instead of using a crate and I can jump a 3 foot gate with no problem.

I have found my voice and bark kind of loud if I hear a strange noise or there are  people around that I don’t know – so best for all if I live in a single family home.

I sometimes play with the other small dogs in my foster home but prefer my person to hang out with, I would be fine as an only dog. I would probably be ok with a cat as long as they stay out of my space. I’m doing great with my potty skills as long as I’m taken out to potty every few hours, I will use a pee pad on occasion. I will walk on a leash but I really don’t like the wet grass – my foster mom carries me a little way out into the yard, I walk back on the leash and I stop to potty before we get to the house. If you have other dogs I will try to guard your lap so you will need to correct me by saying “STOP” and  if I don’t you need to put me down – I’ll learn real quick not to do that. When I’m not next to you my favorite spot to hang out is the top of the recliner keeping an eye on things. My foster mom says I’m doing really well at home but if I go where there are a lot of people or noise I get nervous/scared.

I’m up to date on my vaccines and preventions. I am spayed and microchipped. My adoption fee is $175. Contact my friends at SBRET.COM and get your on-line application approved so we can enjoy this wonderful summer sunshine together.

Love, Lexi
