Peanut needs:
- Regular walks and exercise
- Everyone steady on their feet
- Someone home most of the day to let him outside frequently
- Someone committed to helping him lose another 4-5 pounds
- Regular brushing and occasional professional grooming
- Children 14 and older
- Good as an only dog or with one other dog that is a calm senior, who would not get in his face a lot.
Peanut is a male Pekingese mix that is 8 years old and weighs 25.8 pounds. His legs are short and his body is long. Peanut likes to go for walks, and with his tendency to put on weight, it’s important that he gets his exercise. Also important for his food to be measured and that he continue to lose about 4 to 5 more pounds.
Peanut’s person passed away and now he needs a new home. He gets along OK with other dogs, but when he finds his new person he wants to be their one and only. He can live with another calm dog but is not really going to be a playmate or companion for another dog. He is more interested in his person. He adapts quickly to new homes and new people. Peanut is very smart and learns new routines easily. He is also an affectionate little guy that will be your best buddy.
Peanut is often active around the house. He likes to herd his toys into his pen or crate and then move them around the room. He follows his person around and wants to be in the same room with them. He can get underfoot, especially in the kitchen, so everyone should be steady on their feet. He likes to go outside to potty and sniff around the yard frequently. He can down steps, but is unable to go up long flights (more than 3 or 4 steps) probably because of his extra weight.
Peanut is housetrained and crate trained. He likes to wander in and out of his crate or pen during the day. He is comfortable in a crate or pen for a few hours while his people are gone. He sleeps quietly in his crate at night or is happy to sleep on the floor beside your bed. Car rides are not his favorite thing, and he will whimper for a bit then settle down.
Peanut barks at strangers who come to the house but quiets down when he sees that his people are OK. He doesn’t like to be petted by strangers right away – he needs time to get used to them.
Peanut has a thick coat of fur and will need regular brushing. He will need to see a professional groomer a few times a year.
Peanut has no known health issues, has had a dental cleaning, and is neutered. He is a few pounds overweight and with regular walks he is losing some weight. It is very important that he maintains a healthy weight with regular walks and a good diet. His adoption fee is $175.
