Hi there! Pumpkin here. I am a 6-year-old, 19-pound male Havanese/Shih Tzu mix with soft, white fluffy fur. I am a sweet-tempered guy after I become comfortable with you but I am shy when I meet new people. Once I learn to trust you and you become my favorite human, I am very affectionate and will want to be wherever you are. I tend to be more scared of men but I eventually learned to trust my foster dad, although I am more comfortable with my foster mom (and women in general). I need someone home most of the day as I do not like being left alone for long periods of time and I do not like being crated or confined.
Because I get spooked very easily and can be very skittish, I need someone who has experience with shy/skittish dogs like me. It is best that there are no children in my forever home because of my skittishness and tendency to get spooked easily. I walk well on a leash and I am doing very well with house training but I need a secure fenced yard because I am a flight risk – if I get away from you I might be difficult to catch. There will need to be a good reliable way to keep me from darting out the door in my new home.
I am a good car rider. I also enjoy going for walks and exhibit good manners when I am out and about, as I do not bark at other people or dogs. During the night, I either sleep in an x-pen in my foster parents’ bedroom or my favorite dog bed in the living room. I currently live with 2 other dogs in my foster home (a senior 6-pound chihuahua and a 30-pound lab mix), but when I went on a home visit I scared the smaller dog that was there so it would be best if my new home had dogs that are about 15 pounds and larger.
I am current on vaccines and heartworm/flea prevention. I have been neutered, microchipped, and had a dental. If you are looking for a loving companion, fill out an online application and ask for Pumpkin. My adoption fee is $175.
