Meet Spencer – Your New Best Friend 💙

Spencer is a 10-month-old male Japanese Chin who is equal parts playful puppy and devoted companion. Weighing in at 11 pounds, he’s the perfect little size for lap snuggles and backyard zoomies.

With his soulful eyes and sweet little expression, Spencer has a way of stealing hearts wherever he goes. One thing about those beautiful eyes is that they weep and the furry area under his eyes, especially his right eye needs to be kept dry and watched for irritation which could lead to a yeast infection that would need a vet’s attention. His foster mom keeps a soft cloth nearby and drys the area often during the day.

He absolutely loves other dogs and truly thrives with a canine buddy. In fact, having another little dog in the home is highly recommended for him. He plays, runs, and zooms around the yard with his foster brother (who’s just a bit smaller than him), and he couldn’t be happier. There are two cats in his foster home, one cat could care less about Spencer but the other cat isn’t a fan.  Because she is so vocal with her dislike, Spencer is super curious about her which annoys Bunny the cat!  It would probably be best if there weren’t any cats in his new home.

Spencer warms up to new people pretty well, and once he does, he is all in — ready to be your very best friend. He has been around older children (ages 13–15) and adores them. He would likely do well with younger children too, as long as they understand how to be gentle and respectful.

This boy LOVES toys and will happily entertain himself — or invite you to join in the fun.

Spencer does have some separation anxiety. When left alone, he will bark or scratch at the door. His foster mom manages this by leaving him with another small dog and ensuring the room is safe and free of anything he could damage or hurt himself with. He’s still not 100% on board with being left behind — he loves his people and wants to be near them.

At night, Spencer happily sleeps in his foster mom’s bed. He is still finishing up his house training and currently wears a belly band as he continues learning. He’s made good progress but has had a few accidents, so he will need a patient adopter committed to helping him fully master his house manners.

He enjoys going outside and spending time in the yard, especially when he has a buddy to play with.

Spencer came to us already neutered and microchipped. He is up-to-date on his vaccinations and is on heartworm prevention — ready to start his new life with his forever family.

If you’re looking for a sweet, affectionate, playful little companion who will bond deeply and love you with his whole heart, Spencer may be the perfect match.

His adoption fee is $175
