Hi, my name is Spunky. I am a 12 year old, 16.1 pound male Poodle and I live up to my name and do not act my age! I came to SBRET due to my previous owner no longer being able to care for me.
I was pretty worried the first couple of days in my foster home, but then realized that they were nice people so I made myself at home. I am very friendly and like to greet everyone that I meet. I also am friendly with other dogs, but don’t know how I would react to cats. I like to be close to my people and will follow you wherever you go. In other words, I do get underfoot! I am very loving and like nothing better than to cuddle with you on the couch. I don’t like being left at home by myself, so someone who is home most of the day to keep me company would be best for me. I am focused on my people. I am not a barker when you are home, but may bark when left alone, so an apartment would not be a good fit.
After a couple of days of adjusting, I have done well in my foster home. I walk well on a leash and have no problems doing my business while on my walks. A secure fenced yard would be great, but not necessary . My foster mom is thrilled that I am house trained and have had no accidents in the house. After a couple of nights of complaining, I now sleep quietly at night in a wire kennel beside my foster parent’s bed.
I like to eat, and have been overweight in the past so my new owners will need to commit to not over feed me. It is important to keep my weight down to protect my knees, as I have had ACL surgery done on both hind legs. My food will need to be measured so as not to overfeed me, and regular walks will help to keep my weight down and my muscles strong. I am able to hop up on a couch with a little effort, and am able to go up and down stairs. Riding in a car makes me anxious, so short trips (to the vet or groomers) are ok, but longer trips may be a problem.
Being a Poodle, I have curly hair which will need regular brushing, and I will need to go to the groomers every 6-7 weeks. My forever home should have adults and/or children 8 years and older. I have been licking my paws, so we are currently using a medicated shampoo to try to ease the itching. Otherwise, I had a good checkup with the vet.
I am neutered, microchipped, had a dental and am up to date on my vaccines and heartworm and flea prevention. My adoption fee is $100.
