Asher

Adoption Area: East Tennessee

Asher needs:

  • A house, not an apartment, due to being a bit barky
  • Regular grooming appointments (approximately every six weeks)
  • An adult home or one with children over 12 where everyone is steady on their feet
  • No large dogs as he can be reactive to larger dogs
  • No cats

Asher is a very lively, 12-pound male Bichon Frise mix who will be 4-years-old in May. His owner surrendered him as she was ill and could not care for him any longer.

Asher loves walks, playing with toys, and being the #1 sidekick for his human. For extra entertainment, he will bark at doorbells and moving objects spotted from afar. Hence, apartment living would not be a good fit for this little guy. He is housebroken, though he may mark his new territory initially. He will be sure to have a belly band in his suitcase wherever he goes.

Asher walks fairly well on a leash, though if he sees another dog (especially a big one), he may suddenly pull and “charge”. He enjoys car rides and is usually calm until he senses the arrival to a destination…then he gets a bit excited. He does get along with other small dogs, and has an older furry sister in his foster home. Though there are some issues of jealousy (mainly over who gets the prime lap spot), the two dogs get along well. Asher would enjoy the companion of another dog, but would do fine as an “only child”. Having his own human(s) is more important, so a home where there is usually someone at home would be best. Since Asher loves to follow his human everywhere, a person steady on his/her feet is important as he sometimes attempts to weave between our legs, or nip our feet in an attempt to get us to play!

A recent dental treatment resulted in the loss of eight teeth. Due to his third eyelid being visible Asher had a trip to see the ophthalmologist at UT Veterinary Hospital. It was determined that his condition was congenital and there was no need for medical intervention. He was born with eyes that are a bit smaller than they should be, and that allows the third eyelid to become visible. It is not causing him any discomfort and does not impair his vision.

Asher would need to be professionally groomed every six weeks or so as he has a thick curly coat. The area around his eyes needs to be kept clean and trimmed to prevent any irritation. Asher is neutered and up-to-date on all of his vaccinations. His adoption fee is $175.
