Hey all you hunker downers!!! My name is Aster and I am a 2-year-old, 11-pound female Chihuahua/Dachshund/something something mix! I had a lot of hair loss when I came in due to fleas but that is all coming back now. I do have some dilute gray coloring that means I can have hair loss that does not come back like on the backs of my ears. I have the cutest little tufts of hair on the inside of my ears and behind my rear legs!
I have a bit of a sad story as I was living out on my own and wandering door to door asking folks to let me in. Finally I was taken to an area shelter by a Good Samaritan and after my legal stray hold was up I came to my new friends at SBRET!
My foster mom says I am the sweetest of the sweet and love attention. I am good with both men and women and I get along great with the dogs in my foster home even the crotchety old Chihuahua. I have not been around children but I would probably be fine with gentle children over 12 years old. I still will tend to drop down to my tummy when you reach for me but we are working on this too. Someone has probably been harsh with me during my short life.
I sleep in a crate in my foster mom’s room in a cozy little bed and do not make a peep and run willingly into it so I get two tiny Charlie Bear treats as a night night snack. When it is time to rise and shine I like to roll over on my back and get a little bit of a pet before we head outside. I also travel just fine in my crate in the car.
Now I know I sound pretty fabulous but I do have some quirks that may have been left over from my time on the mean streets. I’m a little hesitant about going through doors but we are working on this so you will need to be patient with me. I can sometimes take a long time to do my pottying outside and my favorite places to go would be concrete, mulch, and any type of hard surface but will also go in the grass if you take me out into the middle of the yard. I do like to wander around the yard sometimes with my foster fur brother so I think it would help me a lot to have a happy well-adjusted dog in my new home. I am not super comfortable on a leash just yet.
I still have some accidents inside but usually it is because my foster mom has gotten distracted. If she keeps me on a good schedule and confirms I go out when we make our trip then I am usually pretty good but I don’t hold it for long stretches and I have no idea what a pee pad is. I have been a challenge for my humans who are trying to figure out the key to my successful housetraining and I’m making progress but even to my veteran housetraining foster mom it has not been easy and is still ongoing. Therefore somebody needs to be home part of the day and have a fenced yard so I get this down just right.
I love to snuggle with you on the couch at night and will give you my paw and encourage you to keep petting me. Also I like toys and love to chase them. I have also been known to pick up shoes and just carry them into my bed but do not destroy them. It is also great fun to chase birds and squirrels and lizards in the backyard. I am not much of a barker.
If you think you might be the right home for me, get in touch with my buddies at SBRET. My adoption fee is $175.
