Meet Buggy, a 13-year-old female Pekingese weighing in at about 8 pounds. Buggy is a true Pekingese at heart and the personality to match. Pekingese seem to be aware that they were once a dog of royal ancestry with an aloofness and dignity about them. Don’t tell Princess Buggy anything different. She is a sweet girl who is always up for a warm lap and loves to be with her person. She tends to cling to one person, as is common with Pekingese, and will follow them around and may vocalize when they leave. We recommend she not be placed in an apartment-type setting as she can be quite loud when her person leaves. She gets along well with other dogs as long as they are not jumping on her and she had prior experience living with cats which she did okay with. She can be timid in new settings and may take extra time to adjust to her surroundings. She will do best in a quiet home with no children.
Going for walks, exploring a fenced yard, lap sessions and getting attention are some of her favorite things. Once she warms up to her surroundings, she is a laid-back dog who just wants to sleep or follow the humans around to see what they are up to.
Buggy is the best car rider; she just sits back and enjoys the ride! She has done great with potty-training since being in her foster home.
Grooming is very important with this breed. Buggy isn’t the biggest fan of being brushed but if you go slow and use a soft brush she will cooperate. She does great for bathes.
Our veterinarian examined Buggy and found her to have a grade III heart murmur. Heart murmurs are very common in this breed and currently she does not need any medications and it does not affect her quality of life. She has nuclear sclerosis starting in both eyes which is just cloudiness of the lens that is a common development in older dogs, at this time it does not affect her vision. Upon arrival to rescue she had significant dental disease but has since had a dental with several diseased teeth extracted and the remaining teeth cleaned. The vet also checked her bloodwork, updated her vaccines, performed an intestinal parasite check and implanted a microchip. She is up to date on heartworm and flea prevention. She was spayed prior to arriving into rescue.
All that is left on Buggy’s checklist is to find that loving, laid-back forever home! Buggy’s adoption fee is $100.
