Well, hello there. Folks call me Callie, but if you make me a part of your home, you can call me anything you want! I am a beautiful little female Shih Tzu mix weighing in at a perfect 10 pounds and am 8-10 years old. I have a gorgeous ivory and caramel coat that requires frequent brushing and regular trips to the groomers.
Although I am quite playful, I am not a high energy dog – this girl needs her beauty rest. But after a nice nap, I enjoy prancing around the house and playing with stuffed animals. Lots and lots of stuffies! I also like playing with people. I enjoy playing tag, and sometimes I just invent little games to make sure you are paying attention to me.
I am very friendly and affectionate and get along well with people and other small dogs. I would be happy living with other small dogs, or I could be your one and only. Either way suits me.
I’m easy going about sleeping arrangements too. Sleeping is my forte, I almost always sleep through the night with no accidents. I’ll sleep in a crate if you insist. I prefer to curl up in a little bed of my own, and if you are so inclined to allow it, I will snuggle up in the big people bed. I’ll just need a little help getting up and down from there.
I don’t jump on the furniture, and I would never chew on your things. I like to ride in the car and have never made a fuss about riding in a travel crate, just crack the window a little – I like to feel the breeze!
I eat regular kibble and I am not on any medications other than flea, tick and heartworm preventive. Don’t I sound like the perfect dog for you?
Okay, I’ll admit that I’m not perfect. I came in with pretty nasty skin and am still getting occasional medicated baths and that may be something you will need to continue. My potty training has not gone as fast as foster mom would have liked, so I am still working on that. I need frequent trips outside, and barring that, I will try my best to go on a piddle pad. The vet says that I am at least 8 years old, and like many with a few years on them, I am hearing impaired. I also have lost sight in my left eye due to an injury before coming to rescue. Being deaf, with limited vision makes it difficult for me to accomplish tasks. It takes me a little longer to find my way around my environment.
I do not tolerate walking on a leash – believe me, foster mom has tried many times. So far, it’s just a no go for me! That is why I need a small, safe fenced area to do my business without being on a leash. I don’t mind wearing a harness and will even wear clothes if you insist.
I came to Small Breed Rescue from a shelter, so my history is a mystery. I had several tumors on my belly which didn’t bother me a bit but made people quite uncomfortable. Those lumps and bumps have been removed and were found to be benign. I’m hoping it was a one-time thing, but you and your vet need to be aware of that.
So, are you ready for a little Callie in your life? I have been spayed, microchipped and up to date on all my vaccines, as well as flea, tick, and heartworm preventive. My adoption fee is $100.
