Frankie needs:
- Adult home or one with children over 12
- A small dog buddy—not too rambunctious
- Someone home during the day
Hello, my name is Frankie and I am an adorable male, 6-pound, 8-year-old Long-Haired Chihuahua. I came to rescue because I lost my previous owner and sadly no one in the family could take me. I am a super sweet little boy but am scared of suddden movements and new things. I like to follow my foster mom around the house but have started settling a bit with one of the other small dogs in my foster home. I seem to get comfort from having another small dog to pal around with.
I’m working on housetraining and have to say I am getting my foster mom trained really well! I do best when taken outside every couple hours so that I don’t have accidents in the house. I will potty on a leash and harness but am learning about walking on one as I tend to freeze if I feel any tension on the end of the leash.
I love to cuddle beside you when you sit down to watch a movie or read a book. I share my foster mom’s lap willingly with two other little dogs. When it is time for bed I will run to my crate for two tiny Charlie Bear treats and sleep quietly in a crate next to my person’s bed until you are ready to get up. I’m sure I would love to sleep with you also but I am too tiny to be jumping off beds.
I am not super barky, but might bark a little when I get excited like at dinner time, or when the other dogs in my home bark.
I will play with toys for just a bit and get silly zoomies several times a day. My foster mom thinks that is awfully cute!
I also ride well in my crate when going for car rides but I might also enjoy a doggie car seat. I was a good boy at the vet and tolerate baths and brushing. I need to be brushed regularly to keep my gorgeous hair from getting matted. I came to rescue with a lot of fleas and missing hair and yeasty skin as a result of that, but that is all resolving. I am so much more comfortable now!
When my foster family leaves to run errands I stay in a gated kitchen area with my two dog buddies. I am never destructive but if you are gone too long I might have an accident.
I have a heart murmur but have no symptoms and do not require any medication at this time. That will need to be monitored by your vet. It is also important that I maintain a good weight and not put on any pounds due to my small frame and my heart murmur. When I had an X-ray to look at my heart it was noticed that I had gall bladder stones and those are not causing me any issues but my vet put me on an inexpensive medication called Ursodiol to discourage the formation of more stones and to possibly help break up my current ones.
I am neutered, current on my vaccines, current on my flea and heartburn prevention, and had a blood panel and a dental. My adoption fee is $175.
