Are you willing to open your heart and home to an adorable female senior Pekingese? Julya is a 10-12 year old sweet soul who is ready to find her forever family and settle down. Fourteen pounds of calm and confidence. She was an unclaimed stray at a shelter so her past is unknown but the short time she has been in foster care she has proven to be an awesome little dog. As Pekingese can often be, she does have an aloof side, at times she enjoys her alone time and appreciates her own space. She still seeks and soaks up attention and affection but she is not a big cuddler.
A lover of food, she is sure to be around when it is being prepared, hers or the humans. She isn’t a fan of sharing and can be possessive of her food so it will be best if she is fed separately if other pets are in the house.
Crates stress her out but there is no need for one, she does great with house training and sleeps in her own little space. She rides well in car and walks great on a leash.
Pekingese have beautiful coats and with that comes the need to do frequent grooming. Don’t worry though, she will just stand there and let you pamper her with brushings, baths, or pedicures.
She gets along well with other dogs, may try to play with them, and will definitely boss them around in her old lady ways. She has some senior dog issues such as arthritis, a prominent limp on a front leg and poor vision from a distance. She takes an arthritis supplement but may need pain management at times. She also has lots of old lady lumps, mostly adenomas which are benign wart-like growths that do not affect her. A recent vet visit revealed a heart murmur which will need to be monitored at yearly checkups, but it currently does not affect her and can be common in older Pekingese.
