Leah needs:
- An adult active home or one with children over 12
- Fenced yard
- A dog brother or sister to keep me company, or someone that is home most of the day
- Someone who is dog-savvy to continue to help with my protectiveness issues
Hi! I am Leah. I am a beautiful 7-year-old, 14.5-lb female, black and reddish brown Terrier mix. I found myself in rescue when my owner’s circumstances changed and he could no longer care for me the way I need. Don’t let my age fool you though, being a Terrier I am a very active girl! I love to run and play, and I am very fast so I am happiest having access for play time in a fenced yard so I can get my energy out!
I ride very well in the car and would love to go on outings with you to hike or a brisk walk. I do have a little problem my foster mom is working on with me. I get a little protective of my person when other dogs approached us at the last adoption event. I also sometimes get protective of her when my foster brothers or sister jump up quickly on the couch and she is sitting there. She doesn’t understand why I do this because I love my foster brothers and sisters. We play well together, we share toys, and we take turns getting our treats well. I’m very interested in other dogs when we go out, I just need to know my person is okay. So I will need a family that can be patient with me and continue to help me learn.
My foster mom puts me in a crate when she leaves because I have a little anxiety when she is gone. I have learned to like it though and will go in the crate when she says, “Leah, crate” and points to my crate. She is very happy that I have learned that. I like to sleep with my foster mom at night because that’s where she and my foster siblings are, but I could probably learn to sleep in a crate if the other dogs in the home were there with me. However, I did sleep in the bed in my last home.
I have a lot of love to give and want to find a forever home. I follow my foster mom around everywhere because I like being with her. I do have energy, but I lie right by her on the couch when she reads or watches TV. Do I sound like the dog you have been looking for? I am up to date on all my shots, spayed, and on heartworm and flea prevention. My adoption fee is $175.
