Nate

Nate requires:

– Adult home or one with children over 10 years old

– One level home and/or one with very few steps

I am a ton of charm all wrapped up in 9 pounds of scruffy. The humans call me Nate, but if you give me a forever home you can call me anything you want. I am a male Terrier mix and they say I am about 4 years old, but I feel much younger!! I can’t tell you a lot about my previous life, only that I found myself in the hoosegow with a whole litany of troubles….worms (heart and hook), bad knees, still all boy and showing my randy side (i.e., not neutered!). The nice folks at SBRET sprung me out of that joint and started taking wonderful care of me. I have been microchipped, neutered, dewormed, treated for heartworms, vaccinated, and have had knee surgery. I am current with my heartworm, flea, and tick preventative so no creepy crawlies on me! My wonky walk may be a permanent thing because of the knee problems I had prior to surgery, but I am a glass half full kind of pup. You won’t find me whining or complaining. I am pretty much always happy to be doing whatever my people are doing. Want to watch a movie? I’m in. Want to go for a ride in the car? Buckle me up and let’s go.

Now I don’t mean to brag, but I am a pretty smart little guy. When I first went to stay with my foster family, I was not potty trained. Their dogs showed me the big fenced backyard and in no time at all I started going outside in the grass like good boys are supposed to. I will use a piddle pad if I must. My foster mom uses hand signals to communicate with that old deaf dog of hers and within a week I had learned the signals for sit, come, and stay. If you have little treats and a little patience you can train me to do all kinds of things. I am eager to learn new tricks. I like to sleep in the people bed, but I will sleep in my own bed as well and I sleep through the night if you will give me a potty break right before bedtime. I like other dogs and enjoy play time. I don’t know how I would feel about cats but I am a Terrier so that probably would not work. I have impeccable manners and would never tear anything up or jump on the furniture. I don’t beg at the table or get into anything I am not supposed to. You can introduce me to your friends and I will be happy to meet them.

I walk well on a leash with a harness, but I do not walk far or fast. It’s short walks only for me. At just 9 pounds you can carry me around and I like that a lot. I am not much for barking unless the other dogs start it, or if that weird guy comes right up on the porch and leaves Amazon boxes…He’s up to something, I just know it! I would do best with adults or a calm child over ten. I would need a home that doesn’t have too many steps. I struggle a bit with stairs and prefer a ramp. It would be nice if my forever home had another small dog for me to learn from and play with, but I would do just fine on my own. Don’t I sound pretty awesome? If you think I might be the right fit for you get in touch with my friends at SBRET. My adoption fee is $175.
