Hello, my name is Penelope. I am a 5-year-old 16-lb female Maltese/Terrier mix. I was taken to an area shelter, and it looked like I had litters of puppies, and I was quite shy so I may have been a little dog that had only been used for breeding. I came to Small Breed Rescue with terrible ears, something they called cauliflower ears, which was a result of chronic ear infections left untreated by my previous owner. I have had surgery on both ears to remove the tissue growth and had new openings made so those ear infections should be a thing of the past! I can now hear just fine. You will want to keep the hair trimmed away from the new openings but that is not a big deal. I have become more vocal since I can hear everything now!!
I get along great with the other doggies here in my foster home and love to run and play with them in the fenced yard. I love to play with toys and have my belly rubbed. Once I get to know you, I will get in your lap to get loving, lie beside you on the couch, and sometimes get in the bed with you. But at night I usually get on the floor and sleep in my doggie bed. I have been eating well here at my foster home and have gained a couple of pounds, so the vet says I need to be put on a diet, whatever that means. It will be important for me to lose those couple pounds as I will be much healthier for it.
I go outside to potty when let out regularly but will also use a pee pad if I need to. I have a very sweet personality and would make a great companion. I follow my foster mom around everywhere she goes, I ride well in the car, and walk well on a leash.
All my vaccines are up to date, I had my pretty teeth cleaned, Iām microchipped, and on monthly flea and heartworm prevention. If you would love to give me a forever home, fill out an adoption application for me. My adoption fee is only $175.
