Pocket

Pocket is a 6 year old male Yorkie who weighs around 6 lbs. It has been about 3 months since he was rescued from
a puppy mill, and he is ready for his forever home! As he has adjusted to life outside the puppy mill, he has
become so full of life, very loving & even playful! Which is a big deal, if you are a puppy mill survivor! In
general though, he is a laid-back little guy. He is very content to lie in your lap & cuddle (or play), or just
do whatever you are doing. He does love his crate, and will go to it and take a rest now & then during the day.
He is very comfortable with a leash & loves going for walks.

Because he is so small and has such a small neck, a harness should be used on him, not a collar when walking
on a leash. He had to have some teeth extractions after being rescued, but has no trouble eating…loves his
food! He is a super smart dog & has done excellent with his house training. A fenced in yard is not a necessity
if you have time to walk him, as he is comfortable on a leash, and enjoys his walks! He is not a barker, he
will do fine in an apartment. He is crate-trained. He sleeps in his crate every night right beside his foster
mom’s bed. He goes out to potty one last time about 9 pm, and sleeps through the night quiet as a mouse. No
middle of the night potty trips needed!

During the day Pocket is happy just hanging out doing whatever you
are doing. He is also very good in his crate if you need to leave him home alone for a few hours at a time.
An adult home will be best for him due to his tiny size and lack of previous socialization with children.
When he was first rescued, Pocket did not do well with other small dogs but he has been very well behaved and
even playful around other small dogs at adoption events. So he could possibly enjoy having a friend–would
just need to be monitored to see how he did. W are not sure about his behavior with cats, as he has never been
exposed to them. Now, before you think that Pocket just too perfect, there are a few things you need to know.

While I am very well behaved in a car…I do get carsick. So if you want a dog that you can take here & there
& everywhere, I may not be your guy. I also will need extra patience at first. I may not warm up to you right
away. Just remember, humans haven’t always treated me very good. So it may take a little while for me to trust
you and know that I am safe with you. My confidence in people is growing, but a new home may overwhelm me at
first. It could take a couple of days, a couple of weeks, or even a month. But once I do warm up to you, I
will love you like crazy! And the last of it…I am scared of men. I just can’t seem to relax & be myself if
there is a man nearby. I just crawl back into the shell that I was in before I was rescued from the puppy mill.
I retreat to my crate, won’t interact with anyone. My foster dad has tried everything but I’m still scared
of him. So I will need a female caregiver.

If you think I might be the tiny guy for you, please call my friends at SBRET. My adoption fee is $175.

<!–

Hi, my name is Pocket and I am an awesome 6 year old male Yorkie who weighs only 6 pounds and was
rescued from a life living in a cage at a puppy mill. I am a super sweet, lovable little guy and my foster mom says
my personality is really blooming–ummm I think that is good! I can still be a little hand shy but am improving all
the time. Hey in the puppy mill you never got picked up for anything good like loving and petting!

I do like doggie treats but we discovered they can upset my tummy so now my foster mom just saves pieces of my
kibble for treats–hey that works!! I was missing some teeth when I came into rescue due to the 6 years living
in the puppy mill and did lose a few more during my dental but that does not cause any problems with me eating
my food! My foster family is very proud of how awesome I am doing on my housetraining. I respond very well to
positive reinforcement and dry dog food treats. I never soil my crate which is a big deal for us puppy mill
survivors! If in a gated area and you don’t get me outside I will go potty there so I am not completely housetrained
but am getting the idea! My foster mom says I am now a pro when it comes to walking on a leash with a harness.

I am crate trained and sleep quiet as a mouse in a crate beside my foster mom’s bed. My days are spent going for
walks (no long walks when it is hot outside), sitting on the front porch with my foster mom, watching the birds
& squirrels, sitting in the recliner watching TV, exploring the house and helping water the plants outside in
the evenings. I now even like to go for rides in the car. I like my crate and will go in on my own for a little
rest during the day. Look at how much I have discovered in just a few short weeks!

I have learned a lot but before you think I am perfect here are some things you need to know about me. I prefer
women and have not warmed up to my foster dad and he has tried. I would prefer to be the only little dog in your
life as I don’t do so great with other dogs. I have not been around children so an adult home with a female
caregiver will be my best match.

If you think I might be the right tiny little guy for you, please contact my friends at SBRET. My adoption fee is $175.
