Hello and greetings! My name is Willa! I am an 8 pound, female Yorkie. I am about 8 – 10 years old. When you come from a bad situation, sometimes nobody knows exactly how old you are, but this is a good estimate. Thankfully, I’ve come out of my bad situation better than others. I like to cuddle and follow my foster parents around. I give them kisses on their noses, too, if they ask! I lie on the couch next to them when we are watching TV or reading. I must say, though, I was very surprised at all of the noises that TV makes – I had no idea what that was – but now I do. I get along just fine with my foster siblings (a female medium size dog and a female smaller dog).
At night, I sleep in a crate next to my foster parent’s bed. I am still working on house training. Actually, having been in a bad situation for 8 to 10 years, where nobody taught me any expectation as far as house training – I am still trying to learn this, it is difficult for me. I wear a diaper in the house because I have not caught-on to the house training concept. I will go potty outside in the yard and I will go potty inside on the floor. So, I will need someone and I deserve someone, that is willing to be very, very patient with me on house training. And, if I never get the concept, you have to love me just the same and be very kind to me. All I ask is that you realize this expectation when you adopt me. As they continue to work on my house training, my foster parents keep a diaper on me and I am fine with the diaper. I am really good when they put it on me and take it off of me. My ‘diaper’ is actually a washable, cloth band – you can purchase them at the pet store. A pad is put on the diaper and then it goes between my legs, over my tail, and then Velcro attaches the diaper around my waist. I stand still and I understand what you are doing. I have been doing my BMs in the morning, outside, after I get out of my crate. Once in a while, I have a BM accident, but not too often. My foster Mom said it’s been about 10 days since I had an indoor BM.
I appear fairly healthy! My vision is limited. The veterinarian thinks that I may be able to see shadows in my peripheral vision. My foster parents think that I might be able to see a bit more than that. Regardless, I can navigate around the house and yard just fine. Since I cannot see very well, at all, I need a fenced-in yard. I am not very comfortable on a leash. I like the fenced-in yard because I am very familiar with the smells, etc. and my foster siblings go outside with me and I just feel better when I am around them – in a sense, they guide me, but I am great outside running around my familiar area.
Because I came from a hoarding situation, I really like other dogs around me. And, since I cannot see very well, this is doubly important to me. My foster parents feel strongly that I need to be with other dogs in the home. Being an ‘only’ dog would not be a good match for me. I need to take cues from the others. I need a family who is home during the day or at least part of the day. My foster parents stay home with me during the day and if they have to run errands, they just leave me running around the house in my diaper with my dog friends.
I have had a dental and two of my teeth were extracted, so I am in good shape with my teeth. I have been spayed, microchipped, I am up to date on all vaccinations, I am heartworm negative, and I am on monthly heartworm prevention.
If you have the love in your heart for me, I have a lot of love to give to you, too! My adoption fee is $100. If you are interested in adopting me, please contact SBRET.
